Target Holiday Hours 2026: Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year’s
Target holiday hours can change around major shopping dates, so regular store hours should not automatically be assumed for Thanksgiving week, Christmas, or New Year’s. For 2026, Target’s permanent Thanksgiving closure policy provides a clear answer for Thanksgiving Day, while Target has also consistently closed its stores on Christmas Day in recent holiday seasons.
However, Target has not yet published a complete 2026 holiday schedule covering every major holiday. Exact opening and closing times for dates such as Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve should therefore be checked closer to the holiday at your selected store.
Quick Answer
Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day 2026 under the company’s continuing Thanksgiving closure policy.
Target has also closed all stores on Christmas Day in its recent official holiday schedules, although the company has not yet released its complete Christmas 2026 operating-hours announcement.
For other holidays, Target says holiday hours vary by store. Exact 2026 opening and closing times should be confirmed through the Target store finder or Target app before visiting.

Is Target Open on Thanksgiving 2026?
No. Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026.
Target made its Thanksgiving closure a continuing company policy after closing stores for the holiday in 2020 and 2021. The company subsequently announced that stores would remain closed on Thanksgiving moving forward.
The policy continued in later holiday seasons. Target’s official 2025 schedule, for example, confirmed that stores were closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Can You Shop Target Online on Thanksgiving?
Target’s physical stores may be closed, but its digital shopping channels have remained available on Thanksgiving.
In its 2025 holiday guidance, Target stated that customers could continue shopping through Target’s website and app while stores were closed. Pickup and delivery timing depended on service availability after the holiday.
Do not assume that placing an online order means it can be collected from a closed store on Thanksgiving Day.
Target Black Friday Hours 2026
Target has not yet announced official nationwide Black Friday 2026 store hours.
Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, 2026.
Recent Target holiday schedules show that Black Friday can receive special opening hours. In 2025, Target announced a 6 a.m. local opening time for Black Friday, while closing times depended on regular local store schedules.
That previous schedule should not automatically be treated as the confirmed 2026 timetable.
Target typically publishes holiday and Black Friday operational details closer to the shopping season. Check your selected store once Target releases its 2026 holiday schedule.
Is Target Open on Christmas Eve 2026?
Target has not yet published nationwide Christmas Eve 2026 store hours.
Christmas Eve falls on Thursday, December 24, 2026.
Target commonly operates on Christmas Eve with adjusted hours. For example, its official 2025 holiday schedule listed Christmas Eve store hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
Those hours are useful historical context, but they should not be presented as guaranteed Christmas Eve 2026 hours.
Before making a Christmas Eve shopping trip, check the schedule displayed for your individual Target location.
Is Target Open on Christmas Day 2026?
Target has consistently closed its stores on Christmas Day in recent official holiday schedules.
The company’s 2025 holiday information confirmed that Target stores were closed on December 25, continuing the retailer’s established Christmas Day practice.
However, Target has not yet published its complete 2026 Christmas operating announcement as of October 2026. Therefore, the most precise current answer is that Christmas Day closure is strongly supported by Target’s established policy and recent schedules, but the 2026 holiday announcement should be checked once released.
Is Target Open on New Year’s Day 2026?
Target’s official help information does not provide one universal New Year’s Day schedule for every store. Instead, Target advises customers that holiday hours vary by location.
If you are visiting Target on New Year’s Day, use the store finder or app to check the exact opening and closing time assigned to your location.
Remember that pharmacy, optical, Starbucks, or other services operating inside a Target store may have schedules different from the main retail store.
Is Target Open on Easter?
Target has not published a universal 2026 Easter schedule in the current holiday-hours information reviewed for this guide.
Easter Sunday falls on April 5, 2026.
Because holiday schedules can vary, customers should rely on the specific store information provided by Target rather than assuming regular Sunday hours.
Is Target Open on Memorial Day?
Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Target has not published a single nationwide Memorial Day opening-and-closing schedule in its current holiday-hours guidance. The safest approach is to check your selected store.
A store being open does not necessarily mean every in-store service follows the same schedule.
Is Target Open on July 4th?
Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Target’s current holiday-hours help guidance directs customers to individual store information because holiday hours can vary.
Check your store’s listed hours before visiting, particularly if you plan to shop late in the evening or need a specific in-store service.
Is Target Open on Labor Day?
Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, 2026.
No universal 2026 Labor Day schedule should be assumed for every Target store. Check your selected location for its current opening and closing times.
Target Christmas Shopping Hours
Target frequently expands store hours during the busiest part of the Christmas shopping season, but the schedule is announced for individual holiday seasons rather than functioning as a permanent year-round timetable.
For comparison, Target’s official 2025 holiday schedule stated that stores operated from 7 a.m. until midnight local time from November 29 through December 23. Christmas Eve then followed a shorter schedule before stores closed on Christmas Day.
Those hours demonstrate how significantly Target’s December schedule can differ from ordinary operating hours. They do not confirm that Target will use exactly the same extended-hours schedule in 2026.
Do Target Holiday Hours Vary by Location?
Yes. Target explicitly states that holiday hours vary by store.
This distinction matters because a nationwide announcement may establish whether stores are closed on a major holiday while individual locations can still have different schedules on surrounding dates.
Local operating times can be especially important when checking:
- Christmas Eve
- New Year’s Eve
- New Year’s Day
- Black Friday
- Other federal holidays
- Extended December shopping hours
The schedule displayed for your selected Target store is more useful for planning a visit than an unofficial nationwide hours table.
How to Check Target Holiday Hours Near You
Target provides store-specific schedules through both its store finder and mobile app.
On Target’s website, use the Find Stores feature, enter your city, state, or ZIP code, choose the relevant location, and review its store information.
In the Target app, select your store and open its information to see listed hours. Target’s help documentation also explains that customers can view the full weekly schedule for their selected location.
For an important holiday trip, check again shortly before leaving because special holiday schedules may differ from normal weekly hours.
Store Hours vs. In-Store Service Hours
The main Target store schedule should not automatically be treated as the operating schedule for every service inside the building.
Depending on the location, a Target store may contain or provide additional services with separate availability. Therefore, verify the specific service you need rather than relying solely on the building’s opening and closing times.
This is particularly useful when your trip depends on a pharmacy, optical service, food or beverage counter, pickup service, or another specialized department.
Target App and Online Shopping During Holidays
Target’s website and app can remain accessible even when physical stores are closed.
This was specifically highlighted in Target’s recent Thanksgiving and Christmas announcements. In 2025, the company said customers could continue shopping digitally during Thanksgiving and Christmas Day closures.
However, digital access and physical fulfillment are different things. A store closure can affect when an Order Pickup or Drive Up order is prepared and when it becomes available for collection.
Always review the pickup or delivery estimate shown during checkout.
Drive Up and Order Pickup on Holidays
Drive Up and Order Pickup availability depends on the operating status of the selected Target location.
A store being closed for Thanksgiving or Christmas should not be interpreted as offering normal same-day pickup service simply because Target’s website and app remain available.
Target’s previous holiday announcements have specifically explained that purchases made during a store closure may be available for pickup after the holiday.
Check the fulfillment estimate attached to your actual order rather than relying on normal pickup expectations.
What Changed From Previous Target Holiday Schedules?
Target’s Thanksgiving policy is one of the most important changes to understand when looking at older holiday-hours information.
Older Target announcements can show stores opening on Thanksgiving itself. That information is now outdated. In 2021, Target announced that Thanksgiving closures would continue moving forward, and the company has maintained that approach in subsequent holiday seasons.
This is why older Target holiday schedules should not be reused as current operating information.
Christmas Day has likewise remained a closure date in Target’s recent official holiday schedules.
Sources & Verification
This guide was checked against Target’s official corporate holiday announcements and Target’s official customer-help information on store and holiday hours. Target’s 2026 holiday shopping campaign is underway, but a complete Thanksgiving-to-Christmas 2026 operating schedule has not yet been published as of October 6, 2026.
Confirmed company policies have therefore been separated from historical schedules and holiday dates that still require local or later verification.
